Brief
This photobook is an intimate peek inside of a home in Oakland and the people that live there. Brenda and Charlie have lived there together for about 45 years. This book is an opportunity to learn about the ways two individuals can live and exist in their indoor and outdoor spaces. This book explores their personal and shared spaces, and the way that space influences interactions with each other and with themselves. 2511 RAWSON ST attempts to honor Brenda and Charlie’s relationship and the heart and soul that is put into their unique home-making.
Minimal design is featured throughout in order to highlight the special images as the main content. Simple and short text allows photos to step forward and into focus.
Readers are invited to consider the importance of documenting the “ordinary”.

Typography
All type throughout the book was carefully selected.
A clean and bold sans serif font was used for the headers throughout the book.
A retro serif font was chosen for the body copy in order to mimic type that would have been common during the time the home was purchased.
Brenda’s handwriting is used on the front cover and on the last page. Her handwriting was scanned and processed from letters that were written and mailed to her granddaughter.
